Stars

Occaisionally, a shooting star can be seen shooting across the sky at night. You can look up by pushing up on the right stick. If you're not holding any tools, press 'A' to wish on the star, and it will glow brightly.

The next morning, you'll find a Star fragment washed up on the beach, which can be used as a crafting ingredient. There appears to be a cap of 20 fragments per day.

Some mornings, Isabelle will announce a meteor shower is coming - between 7pm and 4am that night there will be many shooting stars.

Fragments

The next morning, star fragments of different kinds can be found on the beach. The different types of fragments appear at random, with a different kind zodiac fragment available based on the date. Each zodiac fragment can be used in a single recipe.

Recipes

You can obtain recipes for items using star fragments from talking to Celeste, as well as from in-game events. Every time Celeste visits your island (or a friend's island), talk with her to get a new recipe. Be sure to talk to her once per zodiac period to get the dedicated recipe for that fragment.
